About the course

The level 3 NVQ is for electricians who have previously completed their level 2 and 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations (2365) or equivalent older qualifications and are now in their final stages of becoming a qualified electrician.

What does the level 3 NVQ Electrical Qualification cover?

This qualification is completed in a place of work and the time spent in the classroom is very minimal.  You are required to evidence your electrotechnical competency by collating documentary evidence of your electrical installations on site.  This evidence is checked during the site visits made by one of our allocated assessors.

Why is the Level 3 NVQ Electrical Qualification required?

Achieving this qualification allows electricians to progress their career as a qualified electrician and progress on to the following City and Guilds Qualifications:

  • Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations.
  • Level 3 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations.

You may also need the level 3 NVQ to:

  • Obtain the status of “Electrician” with the JIB. If you wish to join them or work for an Electrical Contracting firm that is a member of the JIB.
  • Obtain a JIB Gold ECS card.
  • Become a Part P registered “Approved Electrician” with one of the Part P scheme providers such as NICEICElecsa or NAPIT.

What does the Level 3 NVQ Electrical programme cover?

There are few steps required to satisfy the requirements set by the City and Guilds.  These are:

  • A small qualification bridging unit and assessment is undertaken at the training centre.
  • Portfolio sessions will be taken at the centre to guide the trainee.
  • Assessments are completed on site.
  • A final assessment (AM2) will be completed at an AM2 centre – Not included in course fees.

Therefore, the duration to complete depends on your ability to gather the required evidence for assessment.  As an indication most of our learners are able to complete this on part-time basis within three months.
